Tongole Wilderness Lodge is an exciting new ecotourism venture located deep within the rugged and breathtakingly beautiful miombo woodland of the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve in Malawi. The lodge is made for total relaxation and adventure, and guests enjoy complete freedom to choose how they spend their time.
The lodge offers guests a choice of staying in one of four River Cottages, each with a raised wooden deck that offers a tranquil and private space to relax and watch the river and forest wildlife go by. All the rooms are furnished with comfortable twin beds that can be converted into a king-size bed on request. The bathroom is en-suite and consists of a flush toilet, a shower and a large hand-built sunken bath that doubles as a plunge pool. Hot water as well as 240v power is available in each cottage. An additional single bed for a third person can be added on request. Luxurious and open-fronted, these cottages offer lovely river views and they blend in perfectly with their unique natural setting. Guests will enjoy delicious meals and refreshing drinks which are included in the rate, and laundry facilities are available if needed.
Guests can participate in various activities such as bush walks with a highly trained guide, fly- and freshwater fishing trips, birdwatching or visits to a local traditional village. Guests may even decide to simply relax and enjoy the atmosphere. The reserve supports a rich diversity of flora and fauna, and large mammals found here include elephants, lions, leopards, buffalos and sable antelope, and over 280 species of birds have already been recorded in the area. There are plans to reintroduce species such as giraffes and even black rhinos.
Please note that Malawi is a malarial area and it is recommended that guests seek professional medical advice prior to travel. Tongole is also not fenced and children younger than 12 will only be accepted when reserving the entire lodge.
