This is a beautiful lodge situated on the banks of the beautiful Bua River, in Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve. Small and owner-managed, guests can be assured of a relaxed and friendly stay.
Accommodation is provided in six private safari tents, built on varnished wooden floors and shaded by thatched roofs. Each tent has a viewing deck that overlooks the beautiful river. Much of the furniture has been made by local artisans and constructed from trees found within the lodge site.
The tents are reached by walking, but never more than 300 metres from the main lodge. The footpaths are patrolled by lodge staff and lit with paraffin lanterns to guide you back to your room at night.
All meals and afternoon tea are served in the unique main lodge, set right on the bank of the river. There is a network of wilderness walking safari trails inside the reserve for the more active guests.
Hillside provides two smaller tents on a hill, below the tall trees and with views of the river and forest. Both tents are en-suite, with private open-air bathrooms to the rear. All the beds are fitted with mosquito nets. Lighting is provided with a combination of solar and paraffin lamps. Palm-wood armchairs and a coffee table on the outside deck allows for a relaxed afternoon.
These tents are only a short walk from the restaurant, one with a queen-size bed and the other with two three-quarter beds. All the beds are fitted with mosquito nets. Extra single beds can be provided for children, although we recommend no more than one extra bed per tent. Lighting is provided by a mixture of solar lamps, paraffin lamps and candles. Riverside tents are en-suite, with open-air but very private bathrooms to the rear.
These two luxury units provide a unique wilderness experience, without sacrificing comfort. One tent has a queen-size bed and the other has two three-quarter beds, all with high density mattresses and down pillows. Extra single beds can be provided on request. Lovely decks at the front of the tents are shaded by trees, with unrivaled views of the river. There is a breakfast deck perched on a rock in the river, reached by a wooden bridge.
